What it looks like

Two players with backpacks in a firefight by a fence, a car exploding in the background — PvP is on, offline raiding is off. Protection kicks in 30 minutes after the last logout.

Two players building a wooden palisade in the snow — You can build almost anywhere, except at POIs, on roads or inside rocks.

A player with a spear and a yellow backpack among downed puppets by a scrapyard — Puppets here have 70 % health and move slower than by default.

A biplane flies over the island in the evening light — Loot turns up twice as often. You still have to learn to fly yourself.
